Roll up, roll up! Read all about it – fantasy submissions wanted here!
I was recently lucky enough to be invited to guest edit a rather special issue of Stepaway Magazine, an online journal which publishes walking narratives, usually through urban environments. The sights, smells, and wonders of human cities and districts – explored through poetry and prose.
But this issue is a fantasy issue, and I’m looking for writing that wanders the imaginarium. Fantasy worlds of all shapes, colours, and shadows. You can visit the submissions page here, but the official callout says:
“We are eager to receive prose and poetry that evokes the sensory experience of walking through imaginary worlds. In celebration of science fiction, fantasy and all other genres of speculative fiction, we ask writers to lead us through the landscapes of unknown planets or parallel dimensions; dystopian cityspaces or elven villages.
As the flâneur, flâneuse, or urban wanderer, moves through the labyrinthine streets of a city, observing and recording its dangers and delights, our writers will do the same – but in the realms of the unreal. Encounters with mythical creatures, strange architecture, and dangerous magic are probable, but the possibilities are endless. Build us a weird world and guide us through it.“
The deadline for submissions is Thursday 30th June, and full instructions can be found on the Stepaway submissions page.
I can’t wait to start exploring all of your twisted worlds, and piecing together an issue that’ll be one of a kind. So please – send us your work!
